New Purchases
A Good Week
The so-called jobless rate fell to 8.5%, which looks like the trend is improving, except that the jobless rate only includes those who are looking for jobs and can’t find one. If we add in those who have given up and dropped out, then the real jobless rate is still pretty much stuck on dismal. In any case, the market was not impressed on Friday. Still, the first week of the year was a good one, and since we are now in an uptrend (pretty tenuous, but still…) we’ve been buying. No changes in the portfolio for tomorrow.
OK, Nothing Special
A decent day for the market. Earnings season is about to begin, which is usually a volatile time. No changes in the portfolio for tomorrow.
Stock Market Volatility
Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile. Today the market is very volatile.
Up Move, Low Volume
Today’s up move made up for yesterday’s down move, but today, the volume was poor. Nothing in this market inspires confidence but the strategy is designed to isolate emotion (including confidence) from the equation. No changes for tomorrow.
Another One Bites the Dust
Another bad day, another fund hits it’s sell point. VFINX will be sold at the close tomorrow.
Down Again…
Another down week, with no reason to think that the downturn will soon end. The economy is lousy and the prospects for spending and debt do not look good. Keep in mind, however, that the market is a discounting mechanism. It goes where it thinks the economy will be six months in the future. This is why bull markets tend to end while the economy is excellent and bear markets tend to end while the economy is terrible. All of which adds up to the simple rule that it is not wise to outguess the market. Buy while it’s going up. Sell while it’s going down. No changes in the portfolio for tomorrow.
Small Rise
The market was up modestly in lower volume. Not much to speak of there. No change for tomorrow.
Down Again
Up, down, up, down, down…this is getting old. JMCVX has hit it’s sell point and will be sold at the close tomorrow. A very frustrating market, a very frustrating year.
Reversal
The market was solidly up early in the day, only to finish with a late day reversal. Not encouraging. We’re still wandering around the baseline, down slightly for the year, hoping for some definitive direction. No changes for tomorrow.
